The Communication Section Of The Asq - 1528 Words
1) Communication: In the Communication section of the ASQ, I assessed the toddler by reading and playing with her favorite stuffed toy, Minnie Mouse. During the assessment, she was able to state words such as ââ¬Å"Babaâ⬠, ââ¬Å"Mamaâ⬠, ââ¬Å"Noâ⬠and ââ¬Å"nanaâ⬠, which is her word for food. She stated these words when she was attempting to leave the room to go see her father. The toddler, although she was already fed prior to the interview, wanted to eat with her father and saying ââ¬Å"Baba, Nanaâ⬠while pointing at the door. When her mother told her to come back, the toddler shook her head and stated ââ¬Å"noâ⬠. However, she was able to come back when I asked her to get me her favorite toy, Minnie, to play with. The toddler was able to follow my directions after that occurrence. The toddler brought back Minnie, and sat next to her mother. Further, I assessed her ability to look through a book, which was also Minnie themed. The toddler was able to say more words such as ââ¬Å"Mimiâ⬠for Minnie, and the word ââ¬Å"cueâ⬠referring to ââ¬Å"cuteâ⬠. By completing these tasks, she was able to complete the first section of the ASQ form and scored a 60. 2) Gross Motor: Secondly, I assessed the toddlerââ¬â¢s gross motor skills by walking with her. I observed her while walking on her own and how she picks up objects off the floor. The toddler was able to walk by holding both of my hands without falling. She could walk alone and without assistance while maintaining her balance, even if I only held one of her hands.
